    Parliamentary Ombudsman

    The Ombudsman oversees the legality of the activities of the authorities mainly by investigating complaints submitted to him. In his activities, he focuses on promoting fundamental and human rights.

    The Ombudsman and the Deputy-Ombudsmen

    The Parliamentary Ombudsman is Petri Jääskeläinen. He is responsible for the oversight of legality together with Deputy-Ombudsmen Maija Sakslin and Mikko Sarja.

    The Parliamentary Ombudsman oversees and promotes legality and the implementation of fundamental and human rights. He has two special duties under international conventions.

    The National Human Rights Institution of Finland

    The National Human Rights Institution of Finland consists of the Parliamentary Ombudsman and the Human Rights Centre along with its Human Rights Delegation.

    There are two supreme overseers of legality in Finland: the Parliamentary Ombudsman and the Chancellor of Justice. The rights of the individual are emphasised in the Parliamentary Ombudsman’s tasks.

    Annual reports

    The Ombudsman publishes an annual report on activities in the previous year. It is published in Finnish and Swedish. An English summary of the annual report is also published.
