Data protection rights and legal protection

You can ask the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman to implement your following data protection rights.

Right to access data

You have the right to know whether we process personal data concerning you. If you wish, you have the right to receive a copy of this information unless we have a legal reason to refuse to implement the right.

Right to rectify data

If any of your personal data are incorrect or incomplete, you may request that we rectify or supplement them.

If we rectify data on the basis of your request, we have an obligation, where possible, to notify the rectification to everyone that the data have previously been disclosed to.

Right to restrict the processing of data

If you feel that the information we are processing about you is incorrect, it is processed unlawfully, but you do not want it to be deleted completely, or you need information that we no longer need for the original purpose in the Office (we would be deleting the information), you can ask us to restrict the processing of your information.

In this case, we will be able to process your information only:

  • with your consent
  • if we need the information for establishing, presenting or defending a legal claim
  • in the public interest, or
  • to protect the rights of another person

If we restrict the processing of the data on the basis of your request, we have an obligation, where possible, to notify the restriction to everyone that the data have previously been disclosed to.

Right to object to the processing of data

If you wish, you have the right to object to the processing of personal data related to contacting us by phone and to the processing of personal data related to the media email distribution lists. You can do this at any time based on your personal specific situation. In this case, we will no longer be allowed to process your personal data unless there is a substantially important and justified reason for the processing that supersedes your interests, rights and freedoms, or if the processing is necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of a legal claim.

Right to lodge a complaint /Legal protection

You can appeal against the Parliamentary Ombudsman's decisions on your data protection rights to the competent administrative court in accordance with the appeal instructions provided by the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman in connection with the decision.
