Deputy-Ombudsman Maija Sakslin is not available for a new term of office

Deputy-Ombudsman Maija Sakslin’s term of office ends on 31 March 2026. Sakslin has announced that she will not be available for a new term of office.

Maija Sakslin has served as Deputy-Ombudsman since 2010.

Prior to that, she served as a researcher in constitutional and European law in various positions of responsibility in European research projects and as an expert in negotiations concerning European law and transnational social security agreements.  

Sakslin has previously participated in the work of several working groups and committees assessing the needs for a constitutional reform and preparing changes. She has also chaired the Management Board of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights. Sakslin has been granted the title of honorary doctor by the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Turku.

The position of Deputy-Ombudsman for the four-year term 1 April 2026–31 March 2030 is currently open. According to the announcement by the Speakers’ Council, persons who will be available for the position of Deputy-Ombudsman are requested to notify the Secretary-General of Parliament of it by 15.00 on 4 February 2026, address: Registry of the Parliamentary Office, Eduskuntakatu 4, 00102 Eduskunta.
