The Eduskunta reappoints Riitta-Leena Paunio as Ombudsman

At its meeting in plenary session on 1.12.2005, the Eduskunta reappointed Ms. Riitta-Leena Paunio, Licentiate of Laws, as Ombudsman. Her second term began on 1.1.2006 and runs until the end of December 2009.

Ombudsman Riitta-Leena Paunio is the 17th incumbent of the office. She assumed her duties on 1.1.2002.

Riitta-Leena Paunio’s career at the Office of the Ombudsman has been a long one. She began there as a junior secretary to the Ombudsman in 1972. Since then she has worked as a senior secretary to the Ombudsman, a referendary counsellor and Secretary General. She served as the substitute for the Deputy-Ombudsman in 1992–1995. She was one of the Deputy-Ombudsmen from 1996 to the end of 2001.

Ombudsman Paunio has published presentations and articles on fundamental and human rights as well as especially on social rights.
